Supporting Youth in Simcoe County
JavaWockies FRC Team 6336 is a community based robotics team active in getting teens in the area involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education. We are part of an organization known as FIRST.
The Hardest Fun You Will Ever Have
The excitement and energy built into the FRC program provides engagement and incentive for youth to take on the hard work of learning STEM and building a robot. FIRST Robotics is one of the most effective tools for encouraging youth to learn how to learn.
Through the program, students are able to learn CAD software, programming, engineering, leadership, teamwork, metal working, and using machines such as a lathe and milling machine to name a few of the benefits. All of what they learn is hands on, showing them how the knowledge in their school textbooks can actually apply to real life.
More than just robots, FIRST is about building opportunities for youth.
- We build relationships between youth and industry leaders in our community that often grow into future employment opportunities.
- We open doors to learning new skills by bringing in professionals to teach, by providing access to software and providing an engaging end goal.
- Over $250,000 in Ontario scholarships are available to FIRST students.
- FIRST improves opportunities and encouragement for students to pursue post-secondary education.
