JavaWockies Make a Difference!

November 28, 2018 Leave a Comment

JavaWockies youth work to make a difference in our communities by reaching out through:

  • Metro Grocery Store car wash – fundraiser and community awareness.
  • Volunteered at Central Ontario Vex Robotics Competition. Team members had the opportunity to do field reset, referee, and do a little emceeing.
  • A three week robotics elective was taught by a team member using VEX IQ at a school in Owen Sound – currently no FIRST events in the town.
  • Volunteered at a VEX IQ event. A team member was the Emcee for the whole event.
  • Two of our team members own Bot-in-a-Box Educational Robotics and our team was advertised across their social media accounts.
  • Georgian College Train in Technology. We showcased our robot to 600 high school teens and the Mayor of Barrie, giving them the opportunity to ask questions and learn about FIRST.
  • Attended SWATposium for training and networking.
  • Attended National Instruments NI Days conference.
  • Attended Stemly Cup to assist team 2994
  • Working to develop Simcoe STEM – a non-profit organization to help ALL robotics teams in Simcoe County.
  • Working to teach youth on other teams some of the skills we have learned. JavaWockies work with the Cybergirls Robotics program as well as reaching out to do workshops with a new FRC team in Alliston.
